Mtyobo Public Primary School.

Today I went to Nemato township for the second time. Last Tuesday I went with a few other ladies and we worked with the children on their reading skills. We brought children into a class and analysed their reading, they read in isiXhosa (pronounced  "kosa") . We marked the children on their reading skills, some classes the children were poor at their reading and other classes children were amazing but its all down to the teachers at the end of the day. Today we went back to the school to hand out certificates to the best readers. I know that it seems unnfair to only hand out three or four certificates in the class but it motivates the rest of them to work harder to achieve greater things and this was the idea the ladies of the program came up with. It also self motivates the children too work in school but also outside of school at home. The look on the faces of the children was incredible, to see the smile spread across their face as they were handed their certificate was so lovely.
In this school there is a program were the children are given a meal a day which can consist of porridge, rice or beans which is a great idea because some of the children don't even get fed at home. The children then have to each wash their bowl and spoon and pack it back for the next day, This picture is of them meant to be lining up but I think I messed it up when I said "say cheese".
I am so glad I was able to have the experience of going to meet these children and to see how hard they are working and I wish that I could go more often to help like the ladies who do it every week and every year. The work they do is incredible and the schools have improved so much since they started.
